I am archiving my work,

Shuffling through

Plastic sleeves of slides

From a forgotten drawer.

Squinting,

I remember,

I forget,

I like,

I don’t like.

Lanterns, vases, bowls

Carved and cut,

Glazed and fired,

Packed and sold.

Decades of colors:

70’s muddy beige and browns;

80’s rich blackberry wine and peacock green,

Then bright pinks and turquoise blue;

90’s soft creamy whites

Then velvet black, brown, and shimmering golds.

Round pots, straight pots, flared pots,

Clay walls that rose in spiraling ridges

From the forceful, delicate

Pressing and pulling of my fingers.

A quickened interplay of two wills

Fusing into form

My will

And the clay’s will.

Sculpted seeds,

Vining handles,

Scattered triangles

And repeated squares,

Rams’ heads,

Ships of renewal,

Wings of transformation.

Draping flowers wind and weave

Through cut open spaces

That let in,

Let out,

Light.

The captured hundreds

From the many thousands,

Archived.
